About Adult Family Home
Adult Family Homes (AFH) are regular houses in regular neighbors licensed by the Department of Social and Health Services to provide care for up to six residents with a developmental disability. AFH’s provide each resident a place to live with a bedroom, meals, laundry, supervision, and varying levels of assistance with support needs. Some AFHs provide occasional nursing care.
Olympic Neighbors opened the first licensed Adult Family Home for people with developmental disabilities in Jefferson County in 2018. Our home is called the Hamilton House and it provides 24-hour support to six adults with developmental disabilities. Our goal for this home is to ensure those residents are living meaningful inclusive lives in a regular home in a regular neighborhood. Our staff support our residents with all aspects of daily living such as hygiene and grooming, shopping and meal preparation, bill paying, increasing communication skills, and understanding how to share a home with roommates. Olympic Neighbors is committed to supporting our residents to be engaged in routine employment, volunteer work or classes, to participate in groups, hobbies, and recreational and spiritual activities, to develop meaningful relationships with others and to maintain good physical health.
One of things most important to us is that we empower our residents to discover what they want in their lives and to help them achieve those goals they set for themselves. Olympic Neighbors is dedicated to helping people with developmental disabilities and their families develop options for safe, affordable and supportive housing. As the organization grows over time, we hope to increase the number of people we can serve in the East Jefferson Area.
